In Scoville, players are experts tasked to crossbreed peppers to create the hottest breed ever. Help the town of Scoville by growing peppers, fulfilling contracts and creating recipes!
Every round starts off with a blind auction, where players bid for a turn position. This is interesting as the order players take for the 3 main phases of the game – plant, harvest and fulfil – alternate between phases. The grid movement and set collection mechanics gets increasingly satisfying as the communal field slowly fills up with different coloured peppers. Towards the end of the game, every harvest becomes an explosive yield of peppers.
Graphic designers will be impressed with the implementation of colour theory within the concept of crossbreeding – yellow and blue peppers produce a green one. It is surprising how much strategic depth the game offers even with the minimal amount of decisions players have to make. Fans of set collection and light strategy games will definitely appreciate the fast-playing game of Scoville!
