Experience pre-revolution France as a noble in Legacy: The Testament of Duke de Crecy!
Legacy is a worker placement and card drafting game where players take the role of aristocrats trying to build a powerful dynasty in 18th century France. While gameplay is focussed mainly on building ties with the rich and powerful through arranged marriages, you can also gain prestige by buying titles and mansions, earn points by helping the community or expand your family by visiting the fertility doctor (twins guaranteed!).
Legacy is unabashedly practical at how arranged marriages will benefit your family. Gender, age and appearance all play a factor in the effects of the spouse cards. Noble men will bring income and prestige to the family while the women build up your social circle by introducing you to her friends. Although these tropes could rub some players the wrong way, they help the game to accurately emulate societal conventions in 18th century France. I myself really enjoy how thematic the game is.
Regardless, the core game of building your tableau into a massive family tree of 4 generations is immensely satisfying. In addition, the vast number of potential spouses and secret missions grant you endless options to optimise your family’s synergy. Gamers that enjoy exploring alternative strategies will definitely enjoy Legacy: The Testament of Duke de Crecy.
